Paul Byrne's Contract Terminated

Ballyclare Comrades Manager Paul Byrne has had his contract terminated by the Comrades Committee.

After a long meeting with the board on Saturday morning, both sides eventually agreed that there was no money available to pay his wages and decided that there was no other alternative but to terminate his contract.

Although at the minute Ballyclare Comrades FC remain managerless, front runner for the job is veteran player Jamsie Kirk.

Jamsie once before was caretaker manager at the club just before the arrival of Paul Byrne and will be in with a chance of taking over at the hotseat.

All at Ballyclare Comrades Online would like to wish Ex Manager Paul Byrne all the best in the coming future.

Popular Striker Wins Personality Award
Innes Gray, whose two goals knocked Cliftonville out of the Nationwide Irish Cup, has won the award for Personality of the Round. Innes' exploits against his former club gained a lot of press coverage, particularly due to his background as a top class rugby player in former years.

The award is well deserved for a man who, during a long spell of injury this season, had helped out wherever he could at the club. He became Paul Byrne's right hand man on the bench for a time and often assisted with training, all unpaid.

Youngsters in International Squad
For the first time ever Ballyclare Comrades have had two of their young players picked for the Northern Ireland under 18 schools international squad. Both striker Ronald Burns and recent arrival, midfielder Kieran Kane have been picked for the Centennary Shield tournament against the other Home International countries.

The first match against England was due to be played on 2nd March at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium. Unfortunately the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch. Then Dixon Park was due to host the game against Scotland on 16th March. This game was postponed due to the Foot and Mouth Crisis and has been rescheduled for 4th May.

The lads' first game therefore was against Wales at Haverfordwest FC on Friday 30th March. This ended in a 1-0 defeat.

However, Scotland were the visitors to our very own Dixon Park on Friday 20th April.

A victory would of saw the Scottish boys lift the Centenary Shield but it was not to be. In fact, Nothern Ireland had most of the play and some very good chances in the game.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw, not showing how well the Northern Ireland boys actually played.

Afterwards Northern Ireland Coach Andy McMoran told how it was " One of the best International performances that he had ever seen".

Both Ballyclare players Ronald Burns and Kieran Kane played a full 90 minutes with Kane playing in the centre of midfield and Burns up front.

Boys To Travel Back To England For Last Game In Centenary Shield

Ballyclare players Ronald Burns and Kieran Kane will be travelling to England on the 26th April to play in the last game of the Centenary Shield against the England U18 schoolboys.

A win will see the England schoolboys win the tournament but even though the Northern Ireland schoolboys cant win the tournament, they will give their all to defeat one of the best teams in the home nations.

This game was due to be played last month at the Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham but had to be called off due to a frozen pitch.

The game will be played at the same venue on Friday night with a 7.30pm kick off.
